Geriatric House Call Dentistry has been serving homebound senior citizens for over 30 years in the Manhattan area. Now, Dr. Rachel Klein has joined the team with Geriatric House Call Dentistry to bring quality dental care to senior citizens who are unable to leave their homes, residing in the West Long Island area.
Dr. Rachel Klein began focusing on homebound senior citizens when her grandmother had a dental need that was never addressed appropriately. This caused Dr. Klein to understand the lack of help in the geriatric community.
Dr. Klein has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years. She is experienced in all phases of dentistry, primarily in home care for the geriatric population, including those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Along with Dr. Alisa Kauffman, their goal is to education and impact the geriatric community in all things oral health. With many homebound senior citizens, it’s critical to provide them with an optimum quality of life and this includes taking care of their teeth and gums. Without proper care, one may be unable to eat and enjoy their food.
Cleanings are also very important as periodontal disease and heart disease are researched to be linked. When one does not brush or floss properly, their gums become impacted with bacteria, causing inflammation and infection.
Both Dr. Alisa Kauffman and Dr. Rachel Klein encourage their patients to brush and floss regularly by demonstrating how it should be done.
